People’s Bank of Elkton

BSA+A was selected to design a new branch bank and headquarters to replace an existing bank building located in the City of Elkton, Maryland. The new building is located along the intersection of two main streets. The two functions of the building, bank headquarters and the branch share a common entranceway that allows the bank headquarters to remain open when the branch is closed. The branch bank features a high vaulted lobby with a glass clerestory allowing natural light to fill the space. The building is designed to fit into the existing urban context using molded brick with a shingled mansard roof and cornice. Decorative half-round dormers add to the overall aesthetic and help ventilate the roof. The building entry has a cantilevered roof to provide cover for the customers leading up to a tower with spire over the entrance vestibule.
