Chester Wharf Annex

BSA+A received the 2010 AIA Delaware Merit Award for the three-story rehabilitation of an existing turn of the century warehouse building.

Chester, Pennsylvania

The Buccini/Pollin Group commissioned BSA+A to assist them with the rehabilitation of the Chester Wharf Annex. The concept was designed based on a three-story rehabilitation of an existing turn of the century warehouse building. The design provides the addition of two additional floors to the single-story Annex. The contemporary design at the top of the building and the external vertical circulation complements the main entry. The combination of glass and metal was used in the design of the exterior façade to maximize day-lighting for internal spaces while creating an exciting composition.

The design features a soccer motif on the 3rd floor executive level of the building. The interior design and proposed finishes are influenced by the soccer being played in the stadium adjacent to the Annex. The interior’s asymmetrical elliptical form creates a dynamic space overlapping one another. The entrance lobby of each floor includes an open atrium connecting each lobby area with the lobby area above.

BSA+A was awarded the Merit Award for this design in the Unbuilt Category of the 2010 AIA Delaware Design Competition.
