The existing high school lacked many modern educational requirements such as natural light and flexible learning spaces. BSA+A worked with the district to create the educational program for the new building. The new high school is a two-story building with departmental wings with computer labs in each wing. The division of space promotes optimal flexibility as each wing can support several different educational concepts such as a math and science wing and JROTC. The wings are designed for future growth and expansion.
BSA+A is incorporating energy efficient materials and design solutions throughout the facility. The inclusion of natural light is instrumental in the design. A separate 9th grade academy and vocational wing will also be included into the design.
The design allows public access to the media center, administration offices, auditorium and gymnasium for maximum usage by students, faculty and the community. The phasing plan allows students to stay in the existing school while the new building is being built. The existing building will be demolished once the new high school is completed.
A new 10,000 SF field house supports all athletic programs adjacent to the new athletic stadium. The field house includes visitor and home team locker rooms, officials’ locker rooms and equipment storage.
