On Saturday, May 13, 2006, Worcester County held a ground-breaking ceremony for the new Worcester Career & Technology Center. The keynote speaker at the ceremony was Governor Robert Ehrlich. Governor Ehrlich praised Worcester County for making education – and specifically career-focused technology education – a priority.
The ceremony was presided over by Dr. Jane Pruitt, the Principal at Worcester Tech, and the County Supervisor of Career Technology Education. Other speakers included Worcester County Commissioner President James Purnell, and Board of Education President Garry Mumford, who specifically recognized and thanked BSA+A for their creativity, hard work and keen listening skills. Worcester County Schools Superintendent Dr. Jon Andes recognized the efforts of hundreds of participants in the planning and design process. Two students at Worcester Tech – Ryan James and Jarrell Whaley, also spoke.
The 140,000 square foot, $33-million state-of-the-art facility houses instructional spaces for a variety of career technology education courses. The project was recently recognized for educational design excellence in American School & University Magazine. Construction will start this summer, with completion and occupancy scheduled for the Fall of 2008.
